The 6th Scottish Networking Event will be held at the University of Stirling on 14 September 2010, from 1-5pm. This quarter's meeting will take a slight departure from past meetings. In addition to a few full-length talks, the main goal will be to cement efforts around early research, and collectively provide encouragement and guidance to graduate students at all stages. So, in addition to a few talks we are planning an extended poster session, where we encourage presentation of research at any - even very early - stages. Also, we're happy to announce that Stuart Johnson and Sonia Panchen from InMon, frequent attendees of SCONE meetings, will be giving a talk about measurement and performance evaluation in virtualised environments.

The next SCONE meeting will be at Edinburgh Napier University on Thursday 25 February, from 13:00-17:00.
If you wish to make a presentation at this event, please contact Bill Buchanan at Napier with a title, and an outline abstract. All relevant areas are acceptable for presentation, but presentations on the areas of security and trust would be particularly useful. For this the SICSA Next Generation Internet theme outlines the development the Internet towards a ubiquitous infrastructure of which key research targets are related to security and trust. Without these the Internet will not truly scale to encapsulate every aspect of our lives, and leave threats to our the future economy and to our own personal integration with the Internet.

SCONE is the SCOttish Networking Event - an informal gathering of networking and systems researchers in and around Scotland. The goal of these meetings is to foster interaction between researchers from our various institutions. Each meeting will take place over the course of an afternoon, and feature:
- talks from PhD students and research staff
- discussions of possible funding opportunities, job opportunities and other events relevant to Scottish networking and systems research
- food and drink
Our first meeting will take place on 11 September 2008 in St Andrews. We plan to meet 3-4 times a year, with our next meeting in November in Glasgow.
